Nowadays smartphone technologies are very advanced and are continuing to grow at the speed of light. Smartphones have now become one of the most important parts of our lives. In everything we do, be it reading the newspaper, shopping, paying bills, and now even attending school & college classes, smartphones are always preferred. We have seen different types of smartphone technologies, from using keypad phones to phones having fingerprint scanners. But what if we tell you, there could be a more advanced version of the smartphones that we might see soon. That is Transparent Phones.
Yes, you heard it right. We might soon see ourselves reading the newspaper, shopping, and paying bills using Transparent Smartphones.
The concept of Transparent Phones will give an advanced and futuristic look that we see in a lot of movies.
But for your knowledge, the transparent phones that you see in the movies are not real. That is just basic editing.
Moving forward, you might have questions like:
What is a transparent mobile phone?
When will we see a transparent smartphone?
Is there any transparent phone in the world?
These questions have been circulating for years and you must be curious to know the answers to these questions.
Don’t worry, you will get the answers to all these questions in this article. Just keep reading it till the end.
What Are Transparent Phones?
Transparent Smartphones have always remained our fantasy. Remember, Tony Stark’s transparent phone which is used in Iron Man 3, a thin glass slab-like thing that is used to do all the work. That was cool.
But that was just the basic editing. No transparent phone was used in that movie. But, if these phones are real, they could change the way we are using smartphones currently.
That would be a great discovery if that happens. But is it possible?
We have seen a lot of things similar to Transparent Mobiles. Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness was released where the screen was transparent. Although, that phone was a keypad phone and was expensive. This phone was released way back in November 2009. This phone had 1.8 inches of screen, no camera, and internal memory of 2GB. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness was later discontinued as it was very expensive.

After that, we have seen a few prototypes that were made to describe how transparent phones would look like. In fact, we have seen transparent TVs, and windows display panels where we can see through it as well as we can see the content on it.
So, it is possible to develop a Transparent Phone. But there will be some challenges while developing a Transparent Smartphone.
Challenges in Transparent Phones
If we talk about developing Transparent Smartphones, there will be a lot of challenges on our way.
Yes, we agree with the display, it is possible to make a transparent display. But is the transparent display a good choice?
What we mean is, while we are using a transparent phone, we might have to adjust the brightness of the screen as there would different elements in the background. It’s going to be quite fatiguing to our eyes and of course, it would have a negative effect on the battery life of our phone.
Moving forward, what about other components of the phone? Where those components will be placed?
It’s not like the companies have given up on Transparent Mobile phones. They are trying and analysing every possible way to create those phones.
But the main question here is, how all the components will be placed or inserted in a transparent phone.
If we talk about the camera, we know it is not transparent, so how the camera will be used in that phone? Same way, if we talk about Speakers, batteries, motherboards, chips, sim cards, memory cards, and all other components, they are not transparent. So, how they will be used?
A Possible Solution for Transparent Phones
One solution might be possible to fit all the components. We can make the display completely transparent and add a small bar at the end of the display where all the components like speakers, batteries, motherboards, etc. are placed. So, this might answer all the questions related to Transparent Smartphones that have been circulating for many years.
Yes, we can use thin wiring in the phone to make it look transparent. But we cannot make other components transparent.
LG, Samsung, and other companies are continuously trying to develop the first-ever transparent phone. So, now let’s see which company will come up first with this idea.
Transparent Phone Patents
Many companies have released patents for Transparent Smartphones. LG’s patent was released for the Transparent Folded phone.

Samsung also released its transparent phone patent. In January 2020, Samsung filed a utility patent with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) and WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office). This patent was released on 27th August 2020.

Polytron also created the world’s first transparent mobile phone in 2013. Polytron is a Taiwan-based company that has created a phone that is fully transparent but the circuit board, memory card, and camera unit are visible. This mobile phone is a touchscreen phone that has a fully functional SIM tray, SD card slot, microphone, and camera. But the phone does not have an operating system. The glass used in that phone is called Polyvision Privacy Glass.

So, companies are trying hard to make Transparent Smartphones a reality.
But looking at the current technology and time, it’s almost impossible to develop a completely transparent and completely bezel-less smartphone.
But if that would have been possible, ask yourself these questions:
Do we need a Transparent Smartphone?
What would be the advantages of Transparent Phones?
What extra would we achieve if Transparent Mobiles become reality?
